Rectal Cancer

Around 1991, when I was in my 30’s, I was treating myself with UV light box treatments at home, as prescribed by a dermatologist. I had red blood dripping down my leg, literally!!

I thought it was from the psoriasis that I had on and near my anus. I immediately called my GP and set up an appointment that very same day.

I was diagnosed with bleeding hemorrhoids and told I could either have them surgically removed or treat it with cortisone suppositories. I CHOSE TO HAVE IT SURGICALLY REMOVED WHICH PROBABLY SAVED MY LIFE AS THEY FOUND CANCER IN THE HEMORRHOID TISSUE!

Note that rectal cancer is not the same as colon cancer. There is skin and not mucous in that area so I was fortunate enough to catch it and have the cancer removed early enough before it ever spread.

The doctors were shocked that I had CANCER at such a young age. Moral of the story… YOU SEE BLOOD, YOU GO TO THE DOCTOR and get proactive!!
